The Weeknd

A few weeks ago, I saw this trailer for the upcoming final season of HBO's Entourage. While the trailer was so-so, I was transfixed by the song and vowed to discover what it was called. Thank you, Shazam.
The song was "High For This" by someone named The Weeknd.

I learned that The Weeknd (yes, it's spelled like that) consists of one man named Abel Tesfaye. He is tight with Drake (who I've been focusing on lately) and with his October's Very Own group, as well as the XO crew.
The Weeknd's debut mixtape, House of Balloons, is free to download. It's also pretty amazing. He is a combination of Frank Ocean and liquid gold. Click here to download it.

Trust Issues

Drake just released a third song, perhaps from Take Care, hot on the heels of "Dreams Money Can Buy" and "Marvin's Room." Marvin's Room still takes the cake, but "Trust Issues" is pretty solid.

Nostalgia, Ultra

Welcome back.

Frank Ocean (the R&B-crooning member of LA hip-hop collective Odd Future) released his mixtape "Nostalgia,ULTRA" in February.It is fantastic... but no longer available for download on the 'tubes, as Ocean is re-releasing the mixtape as a full-fledged EP sometime this summer.
For now, check out "Swim Good," one of the standouts on the album.

Timeflies is a rap group coming out of Tufts University in Boston, MA. They're getting pretty big, and we at The Mixhaüs have a feeling that they might make it pretty big. Like a G7 big. Have a listen.

This song is off the chain. It's made by a guy named Titus Jones, and it's a mashup of La Roux, Taylor Swift, Robyn, and Whitney Houston. It has the "Bulletproof" beat... honestly, words don't really do it justice, so just give it a listen below. Thanks to David C!

Coming Home

It feels good to be back. Some big changes will be coming this year, and I've been working on a few of them. Here are a couple that I'm debuting now: a bigger, better, and improved logo at the top of www.themixhaus.com. The album artwork on downloaded songs is now of much better quality. Graphical changes are going to be huge this year, among other surprises. Haüs Media is expanding.

If you've been following even the most vague parts of 2010 pop culture, you'll know that Kanye West started using Twitter. You may also know that his tweets are insights into the rapper's rich, and funny, lifestyle. Josh Groban wrote a song using Kanye's tweets. Check it out.

Politics

DJ Earworm is back at it again... Last year, he thrilled us all with "Blame It On the Pop," his mashup of the 2009 Billboard Top 25 songs. This year, the president of the United State of Pop uses the 2010 Billboard Top 25 and gives us "Don't Stop the Pop." At first, I didn't like it as much as 2009's mashup, but it's definitely growing on me. Give it a listen.
