The Weeknd - Enemy

We've known for a while that The Weeknd's Trilogy is coming out soon. While the album is going to consist mostly of material from his three mixtapes, Mr. Tesfaye has just released a new song that's apparently going to make the cut as well. "Enemy" seems very Echoes of Silence to me, if you were curious.

Haüs Track: White Dress

I'll admit it: I'm such a Kanye West fan that if he ever released a song consisting of farm animals making noises, I'd probably call it "the best song ever." That being said, "White Dress" (a track, strangely enough, from the soundtrack to RZA's new martial arts movie) is quite a record. Breathless verses, a semi-chopped-n-screwed soul sample, piano melodies: Mr. West has brought it back to the beginning, and it's nice to hear.

I wrote a review of Kanye/G.O.O.D. Music's Cruel Summer a few weeks ago.

I wanted to like this album. I really did.

Based on the tracklist alone, the album should be flawless. Features range from hip-hop heavyweights like Ghostface Killa, Ma$e, and Raekwon to three of the best rap lyricists of all time: Pusha-T (of Clipse fame), the ever-illustrious Jay-Z, and Mr. Kanye West himself.

Given that West hasn’t exactly put out trash over the course of his musical career (his 2010 magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is still my favorite album of all time), you’ve got what should be a recipe for success.

"The Art of Peer Pressure" is the standout, for now. This is the kind of album that gets better and better with each listen. I can't wait to keep listening.

Trilogy

The Weeknd offers up the artwork for his long-awaited "official" debut (which is, of course, his three stellar mixtapes in one package). Naturally, Tesfaye went with the black-and-white aesthetic -- dare I say he was in a House of Balloons frame of mind?
